MHub works on expanding its existing network of scholars through partnerships with academic institutions, particularly the American University in Cairo (AUC). MHub organizes networking events, workshops, and online platforms for knowledge exchange. It builds the capacity of young researchers through training programs covering mixed migration, governance, data collection, and policy analysis. Policy-relevant research is produced through joint identification of themes, the development of policy briefs, and their dissemination to policymakers and stakeholders. MHub strengthens regional cooperation by facilitating dialogue among stakeholders to promote migration management and regional policy development. It positions itself as a key knowledge centre within IOM MENA, developing governance mechanisms, fostering interdisciplinary research, and promoting best practices. It supports policy advocacy by producing evidence-based research to inform policymakers and advocate for migration governance improvements.
MHub adapts a Route-Based Approach (RBA) addressing migration dynamics by focusing on the entire journey of migrants, rather than isolated points of origin, transit, or destination. Through knowledge management, policy research, and regional coordination, MHub will work to identify key migration trends, protection risks, and policy gaps along migration routes in the MENA region.
AUC plays a central role in the route-based approach by supporting migration research, aligning methodologies, and standardizing terminology within MENA. Scholars contribute to research triangulation, integrating IOM’s primary data with secondary sources. This collaboration leads to informed policy recommendations addressing migration drivers and protection needs. MHub supports the production of policy briefs, integrating findings into training programs for young researchers. It organizes regional dialogues and annual conferences, fostering engagement between academia, policymakers, and migration practitioners. It will also leads the re-establishment of the Mixed Migration Task Force (MMTF) to coordinate efforts and align migration policies with regional trends.
